Nintendo’s Wii Fit Gets Us All Moving

You cannot fail to have heard about the Nintendo console called the Wii. There have now been thousands of people all over the place who have gone into their local stores and asked for a Wii.

But the game that is really getting all the attention is called Wii Fit. But is it as good as it is cracked up to be for getting the family all together and getting them fit at the same time?

The name of the game is simply to get you active, but it gives you a lot more than that to enjoy as well. There are countless exercises and routines you can get stuck into, and there is no trying to remember how well or badly you did last time you had a go. Everything is stored for you so you can simply get going again the next time you are able to have a go.

If you aren’t aware of what your Body Mass Index is – otherwise more catchily referred to as your BMI – the Balance Board will soon let you know. But if Wii Fit isn’t quite enough to make you actually enjoy getting some exercise, there are a number of sporting games that will certainly improve things for you.

One of the best examples of a truly all round game is the “Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games” entry. The great thing about this and many other Wii games is that the whole family really can play them. From those of a very young age to those who are well past retirement, everyone can have a go, and that is why the Nintendo Wii has been so successful so far. It is not common to find them languishing on shop shelves; they are far more likely to fly out as soon as the shops take in fresh stock.

The best thing about these games is that a variety of movements are required to win the day. And because you are having real fun and a good laugh, you aren’t thinking about consciously getting exercise. No wonder the Wii has become one of the best ways to spend an evening in without just sitting back on the sofa!

So does it live up to the image Nintendo have given it of being a pastime in its own right?

Well it certainly is a good excuse to have a get together without going out. The initial Wii purchase might be an expensive one, but once you have it all you need to do is provide the (healthy) snacks for anyone and everyone who comes round to have a go on it.

And with plenty of sports to choose from, including tennis, bowling, running, archery and cycling among others, you won’t fail to enjoy yourself and build some muscles at the same time.

Keep an eye out for fresh news items online and elsewhere, that reveal the latest in active games available for the Nintendo Wii.
