Have You Tried Cycling On The Wii?

If you have bought a Wii and you have either the Wii Sports Resort or the Wii Fit Plus, you will know you can go for a cycle on either of them. In the first case you’ll ride along various virtual routes and try to get placed ahead of the rest of the riders. You can even ride tandem with someone who is playing along with you. Alternatively you can try and ride through all the checkpoints on the Wii Fit Plus, and burn plenty of calories along the way.

We all know the advantages of hopping on an exercise bike to burn calories and get fit. But if you fancy a change you can try cycling in the comfort of your own home on the Wii instead. There are certainly plenty of advantages to doing so.

For starters you have the advantage of trying to beat your best time when you go for a pedal on the Wii Sports Resort disc. This is really just exercising your arms though, as you move the controllers to ensure you are pedalling at just the right pace and time for your needs.

The workout you get on Wii Fit Plus is more of a lower body workout. You stand on the Wii Balance Board and hold the controller in both hands. Then to start pedalling you walk on the spot and move the controller from side to side to steer your bike. You can actually go cycling all over the virtual island in the game, so you will see plenty along the way and it helps to keep you interested.

When you have found all the checkpoints (there are different amounts depending on what level you are doing) you have to return to the start line to finish. You will eventually find out how many calories you have burned and how long you have been pedalling for as well. And yes, you can expect your leg muscles to be aching just as they would if you had got on your regular exercise bike.

As such the Wii is ideal for those who want to have a change from their usual exercise bike routine. It keeps things fun and gives you a good burst of exercise as well, meaning that you can get on your bike even when you don’t technically get on your bike at all!
